We just have to get more people and knife selling sites to become members of this forum.
Right now the Blade Forums is the big gorilla of knife forums only because google are being paid to push them, and unless you’re a paying member you get many pop ups and also your highly moderator bugged.
The first big game knife my dad gave me was a Buck Personal #118. I love that knife. I don’t know if Buck still uses the image of hammer pounding a knife through a bolt, but it applies to that knife. I have used only one other knife that can field dress multiple deer, including splitting the sternum, and really not need to be sharpened. I don’t remember all the times, but I know once I field dressed three and only sharpened out of habit afterwards, not really because it was dull.
My (sort-of-adopted-it’s-a-long-story) daughter married a jerk. I was friendly with him for her sake. We hunted together a few times- he was military but had never hunted. First time out, he didn’t have a knife so I loaned him my Buck Personal. Later I gifted him a knife and he was going to return my Personal. (I don’t remember, but I think I gave him one of those Bucks with a blaze orange blade?) Anyway, she caught him cheating. Same story you’ve heard 1,000 times, and I never saw him again. Or my knife.
Recently I got nostalgic and went eBay shopping.
I paid WAY more than my dad paid for my first one. And not “inflation between 1975 and 2024” more. It was that plus “out of production classic don’t lowball me I know what I’ve got” more. But it’s worth it.
I know it’s an OEM, not actually made by Remington. I just don’t like Remington (I know, that sounds positively un-American to some people). The Remington 700 was a great rifle, but I always liked my Ruger Mod. 77’s better.
My uncle had Remington 1100 shotguns for decades and they were a constant headache. The number of times I saw his gun spread across the table in dozens of parts while he diagnosed a problem… He switched to an 11-87 without much more success. And those Remingtons were as heavy as lead. He loved them. I hated them. It left a sour taste for anything Remington.
But this knife…
One of the best bird knives I’ve ever had. Very good steel; the blade takes and holds a very good edge. The wing saw is great for cleaning pheasant and squirrel feet come off without a bit of effort. The choke tube wrench is sturdy and I’ve even used it a few times changing or tightening a choke tube in the field. (The disassembly pin is useful for an AR, but my Benelli and Browning shotguns don’t need their pins punched nearly as often as a Remington shotgun.)
I think I paid 2 bucks.
I grabbed this for my son's upcoming birthday.
Picked this up today at the new town sporting goods store. Lightweight.
[KnifeNews] Multifunctional Pragma on Deck from Civivi
There’s an interesting EDC knife on the way from the busy folks at Civivi. The Pragma offers users a compact blade, button lock deployment, and a couple of bonus features for good measure. The Pragma does not really qualify as a multitool; rather, think of it as a knife first and foremost, seasoned with some […]

Looking through Dad’s knife collection. I gave him this knife when I was in Jr High. Saved up and bought it at Sears Roebuck. I have two others- a Buck and a Remington. I’ve never known how to use them.
I know the PRINCIPLE. They’re used by British game keepers where gentlemen stand about in tweed jackets with Purdy 16 ga side-by-sides, waiting for the beaters to flush more pheasants, and saying things like, “I say, lads, I should like to shoot another. Put some more up, won’t you? My fowling piece has gone a bit cold, I’m afraid…” And the gamekeeper will most likely let the birds hang whole in the shed for 2 or 3 days before cleaning them. So, he uses the hook to remove the intestines so the meat can ‘age’ without ‘spoiling’.
I just don’t know how to do it right- as I’m not a tweed-jacketed gentleman
