I have been squirreling knives away for probably over 30 years but I never really thought much about it! That all changed recently when I decided to start actively buying quality knives to actually collect! Today I decided to gather up all of my folders just to see what I have and I was really surprised! I rounded up over 20 folders and still have a few more to rediscover in my vehicles and such. I didn’t even start on my fixed blades, bayonets and machetes! I am really excited about this new hobby! Why didn’t I know how much I loved collecting knives until now?
I got the Redoubt switched over to AWT anodized aluminum scales in FDE! What an improvement!! This is how it should have been built!!
I picked this up from eBay..I wish I could learn to make these but my fingers are too big for such delicate work!
Here is my new Redoubt from Benchmade! It is so overlooked but the blade profile is awesome! I plan on installing some AWT FDE aluminum anodized scales soon...that will make it the way it should have been built!
This knife is a tank! Should have been called the Abrams! It looks good, feels good and fires hard!
I finally got home from work, ate dinner, got a shower and opened my boxes from UPS! Here are a few photos of the loot! Benchmade Adamas full size auto and my new Benchmade Redoubt! The Redoubt is going to get the new AWT scales but I kind of want to keep it as is for a bit! Finally got to put my skull bead lanyard on the Adamas too!
OMG...I have 2 deliveries inbound and they just ended up arriving in my town early! BOTH are scheduled to be delivered today!! Hard to beat a Double NKD!! Stay tuned, I won't spoil the spoils just yet!!
I'm pretty sure anybody who's been in a camping or backpacking store has seen these knives before. They're made by Opinel in France & have been around for over 130 years. I've ignored the things for years, but eventually bought one. Then I bought two more. There's nothing fancy about these knives. They just cut stuff & are excellent slicers. If you bend the blade, just straighten it out & keep cutting. Break it? Get a new one. They're cheap. The one shown below is a #07 & was $16. Carbon & stainless are both the same price. After I got this one, I bought a #06 & a 08.
Folding knives don't get much simpler: A blade, a piece of wood, metal ring, and a pin to hold it all together. They come in 11 sizes, and in carbon or stainless steel. Sizes 6-12 come with a lock ring. I think a complete set, from #02 to #12 costs $130. #08 is the most popular size world wide. The one below, shown with my SAK for comparison is a #7. The Opinel weighs 1.13 oz or 32g, while the SAK comes in at 2.47 oz or 70g; so they're very lightweight, and you hardly know they're even in your pocket.
All vintage U.S. steel found in Goodwill. I probably paid less than $20 for all of them in total.
Case, Imperial, EKCO, and WEAR-EVER.
Anyone have any ideas on recruiting new members? I got permission to post an ad on the Knife Addicts Anonymous group on Facebook...34K members but not even 1 like or comment! I have also deployed every SEO trick I know to get the forum on Google search faster but it takes time!
There has to be a way to spread the word without every free forum admin losing their mind and banning me, LOL! I swear, these free groups and pages are killing traditional forums by the day!
Help spread the word, guys!
