My first pocket knife as a kid was one of my Dad's hand-me-down Barlows, and the Barlow pattern has always been a favorite. Here's a Case from sometime between 1940 & 1964, according to the tang stamp. I got it at a flea market for a couple bucks, cleaned it up, and it still has plenty of life left in it.

Another of my favorite traditional patterns is the stockman. I bought this one in a truck stop in 1970. It's an Uncle Henry, and was made by Schrade Cutlery in NY state. I think I paid about $15 for it & remember thinking that I hope my wife doesn't find out what it cost. That was a lot of money at the time.Smile

[KnifeNews] Sencut Line Grows in June with Release of the Excalis

June will see a new knife roll out from Sencut, the younger sibling label to We Knife Co. and Civivi. It’s called the Excalis, and it follows a similar mandate as a recent Civivi model in delivering a competent, all-arounder everyday carry. In an earlier article on the incoming Civivi Regulatron, we described that knife […]

[KnifeNews] Boker and Ramon Chaves Team up for Automatic Mini Redencion

There’s a pretty slick Ramon Chaves model coming down the pike from Boker. Rolling out under the main line, the Mini Redencion, modeled after the definitive Chaves Knives model, is not only smaller than its inspiration, but incorporates an entirely different deployment mechanism. Chaves’s work is all about brash, beefy blades and tanklike handles; not […]

[KnifeNews] Civivi Regulatron Goes Back to Basics

We’re working our way through the June batch of Civivi releases, models that will presumably be releasing at or around Blade Show early next month. One among this batch is the Regulatron, a knife that eschews anything fancy and aims to be a dead simple EDC folder. The Civivi catalog (not even counting the adjacent […]
